This year marks the 20th anniversary of the debut of the MX-5, more commonly known as the Miata. The car debuted in 1989 as a 1990 model and took the roadster world by storm. In a decidedly niche segment, the MX-5 has hung on for two decades and sold over 800,000 copies. For 2009, the MX-5 gets a happy facelift to match its stable mates and a slight bump in power, up one hp over the 2008 model for a total of 167 ponies churned out by its 2.0L inline four-cylinder mill.
Other changes for 2009 Mazda MX-5 include suspension modifications, interior updates, new color options and package changes. We'll have a more complete story on the MX-5's changes after its Chicago show debut.
